Fishing in Andaman and Nicobar

Example trip: Fishing and Family Time in the Andaman Islands

Fishing and Family Time in the Andaman Islands

Traveling with a one year old and a four year old shapes the way you move through a place. You stay flexible, keep plans realistic and choose destinations that allow space rather than demand constant activity. The Andaman Islands suited that approach well.

We spent our time on Havelock Island, where days unfolded at an even pace. Fishing trips with Andaman Game Fishing fit comfortably into our stay, without dominating it. Time on the water was calm and well organized, and the guides were attentive to conditions and timing, which made the experience easy to combine with traveling as a family.

The fishing around Havelock is known for Giant Trevally. These are powerful fish, and when one takes a surface lure, it demands full focus. The fishing was physical and rewarding, but never pushed beyond what made sense for our situation. Each outing felt complete on its own, without the need to extend or intensify it.

Partway through the trip, we traveled by boat to Barren Island. Long before arriving, the outline of India’s only active volcano becomes visible on the horizon. The area feels remote and open, shaped by the sea and the land rather than by people. Fishing around the island was steady, with tuna moving through the deeper water. Some of the catch was prepared fresh on board and shared simply, which suited the setting and the pace of the day.

The reefs around Barren Island were equally memorable. Clear water and healthy coral made snorkeling straightforward and calm. We stayed close to the boat and kept things slow, which worked well with a four year old in the water and a one year old nearby. Watching my older son notice fish and colors for the first time was a quiet but lasting memory.

Back on Havelock Island, time at Radhanagar Beach became part of our routine. The beach is wide and gentle, with soft sand and shallow water that works well for young children. It’s often listed among Asia’s most beautiful beaches, but what matters more is how accessible it feels. You can walk, sit, play or simply watch the sea without needing to plan anything.

Looking back, the Andaman Islands offered a setting where fishing, nature and traveling with very young children could coexist without complication. Each experience stood on its own, and together they made the trip feel steady, enjoyable and easy to recommend to families who want space, simplicity and time outdoors.
