Last winter I went fishing in Angola, and it was one of the coolest adventures I’ve ever had. We stayed at Kwanza River Lodge, which is right by the Kwanza River but also really close to the ocean. That means you can fish in both the river and the sea, which is perfect if you love fishing as much as I do.
My favorite part was catching mahi-mahi. They’re super colorful and really strong, so reeling them in was a bit difficult, but also really exciting. When I finally managed to land one, I was so proud. I actually caught the biggest mahi-mahi in our whole family—it was almost the same size as me!
Our Home on the Island
My dad almost caught a sailfish, which would have been amazing. He fought it for half an hour, but he got too impatient, and the fish managed to escape at the last moment. He was a little disappointed, but we still laugh about it now.
A Fishing Day to Remember
Fishing in Angola was unforgettable, and I can’t wait to go back to Kwanza River Lodge someday. Maybe next time my dad will actually land that sailfish!
